Already with the Mayas and Aztecs, the Quetzal was admired as a God.
Its magnificent feathers/springs were symbol of highest power and
decorated the feather/spring crown of the Aztec ruler Montezuma. The
rare and beautiful Quetzal today can only be found in the mountains of southern Mexico and central America.
The all day route leads to de la Muerte to the Finca Serano at the Cerro. Of the Finca with restaurant one has a beautiful view of the volcanos Irazú, Barva and Poás. On a
guided tour of approximately 2 hours one can observe beside the Quetzal
up to 20 additional species of high land birds. Afterwards the opportunity exists
for a 3.5 km path for more exploration.
