Costa Rica has no considerable industry and is a relatively still a very poor country. With the introduction of coffee and banana plantations
started the country's economic upswing. Today single crop agricultural
plantations dominate such as bananas, coffee, sugarcane and palm oil. In addition, in the last years the export of tropical flowers and plants increased
considerably. Tourism and Eco-Tourism is now the single most
important and ever increasing economic important trades. Today companies
are being recruited to locate high tech industrial companies to establish in
Costa Rica. With the likes of Intel and Motorola to name just 2 in the
proximity of San José an ultramodern Microchip factory opens as well as nano
technologies.

The Costa Rican currency is called the Colon. It is advisable to carry USD$ in cash and/or
travelers checks. Credit cards are accepted in the larger hotels, as well as in many restaurants and businesses.
